This first volume is mostly what could be called the "psychological preparation" of Satprem. Mother's confidant had to be prepared, not only to understand the evolutionary meaning of Mother's discoveries, to follow the tenuous thread of man's great future unravelled through so many apparently disconcerting experiences - which certainly required a steady personal determination for more than 19 years! - but also, in a way, he had to share the battle against the many established forces that account for the present human mode of being and bear the onslaught of the New Force. Satprem - "True Love" - as Mother called him, was a reluctant disciple. Formed in the French Cartesian mold, a freedom fighter against the Nazis and in love with his freedom, he was always ready to run away, and always coming back, drawn by a love greater than his love for freedom. Slowly she conquered him, slowly he came to understand the poignant drama of this lone and indomitable woman, struggling in the midst of an all-too-human humanity in her attempt to open man's golden future. Week after week, privately, she confided to him her intimate experiences, the progress of her endeavour, the obstacles, the setbacks, as well as anecdotes of her life, her hopes, her conquests and laughter: she was able to be herself with him. He loved her and she trusted him. It is that simple.

1) N’ambitionne rien, surtout ne prétends jamais rien, mais sois à chaque instant le maximum de ce que tu peux être.2
2) Quant à ta place dans la manifestation universelle, seul le Suprême te la désignera.
3) C’est le Seigneur suprême qui a décrété inéluctablement la place que tu occupes dans le concert universel, mais quelle que soit cette place, tu as le même droit que tous les autres également à gravir les sommets suprêmes jusqu’à la réalisation supramentale.
4) Ce que tu es dans la vérité de ton être est décrété de façon inéluctable et rien ni personne ne peut t’empêcher de l’être; mais le chemin que tu prendras pour y parvenir est laissé à ton libre choix.
5) Sur le chemin de l’évolution ascendante, chacun est libre de choisir la direction qu’il prendra: la montée rapide et escarpée vers les sommets de Vérité, vers la réalisation suprême, ou, tournant le dos aux cimes, la descente facile vers les méandres interminables des incarnations sans fin.
6) Au cours des temps et même au cours de ta vie actuelle, tu peux faire ton choix une fois pour toutes, irrévocablement, et alors tu n’as plus qu’à le confirmer à chaque occasion nouvelle; ou bien, si tu n’as pas pris au début de décision définitive, il te faudra à chaque moment choisir à nouveau entre le mensonge et la vérité.
7) Mais même au cas où tu n’aurais pas pris au début la décision irrévocable, si tu as le bonheur de vivre à un de ces instants inouïs de l’histoire universelle où la Grâce est présente, incarnée sur la terre, Elle te redonnera, à certains moments exceptionnels, la possibilité de refaire un choix définitif qui te mènera tout droit vers le but.
