Introduction

This is a selection from the private journal of a seeker on the path to the New World.

Written for the most part in an aphoristic style, these personal reflections are occasionally interspersed with quotes from Sri Aurobindo, the Mother, Their disciple, and other luminaries. The seeker is also imbued with a haunting passion for History, the Destiny of nations and civilizations, Art and aesthetics, revolutionary action and heroism, all of which spill over into these pages as we navigate an apocalyptic century.

The aspirant's opinions, beliefs, and convictions evolve with time, shedding one layer after another, until in the journal's final phases they are transcended altogether — where the leap into the truly New and Unknown is felt as a vertiginous loss of all mental bearings, following a radical uprooting of everything once held as support.

These are the rough, unsure, unpolished stammerings of a species on its way to extinction, standing at the frontiers of a new way of Being— and it is precisely this rawness that lends them their historical worth and are preserved here as a testimony.
