Manifestation of the Divine

Prayers given by The Mother to Mona Sarkar

The Mother : Contact   Prayers to Sri Aurobindo & MA

Introduction

This book brings together about a hundred prayers given by the Mother to Mona Sarkar. They were written on various occasions from 1949 to 1973.

These prayers are a powerful help to awaken the divinity in the human. We can feel Her Hand leading us to the Supreme Reality that is She.

Our hope is that the prayers in this book may bring closer the ‘Manifestation of the Divine’.

Mona first saw the Mother at the age of nine, in October 1943. On 2nd December of that year the Mother opened a school for the children living in the Ashram. Mona was part of the first batch of students who stood in the courtyard of the Ashram and recited a prayer given by Her.

Mona began writing to the Mother in 1950, putting down his questions in a notebook. Below his questions, She wrote Her replies. This continued till 1973.

From time to time the Mother would entrust work to Mona; with the help of group members, he would endeavour to complete the task assigned. This gave him the opportunity to meet Her more often, to report on the work and request guidance from Her. There were occasions when She spoke at greater length on spiritual life and enquired about his inner progress.

Mona would note down these conversations from memory. A number of them, in their English translation, have been published in four books: Sweet Mother — Luminous Notes; The Supreme; Blessings of the Grace, and Throb of Nature.

Mona’s correspondence with the Mother, his conversations with Her, and the prayers She wrote for him were all in French.

Most of the “Daily Prayers” She sent him are from Her published writings. The English translations used here are from Her books already in print.

There are also a few texts from Mona’s previous books. These text have been lightly revised.

The book has a number of paintings and photographs of flowers. The spiritual significance given by the Mother to each flower has been placed on the next page or, when a flower is mentioned in the conversation, it is indicated in a footnote.

Three invocations by Mona have been placed in the beginning of the book.
