What have you brought? Give it to me.

(I give the Mother the calendar of prayers with the painting for July, ‘The New Creation’ 44. She reads the previous prayer for June.)

Hmmm!

(Mother smiles and concentrates, then writes the prayer for July:)

Toi of seul existes.
Permets due je sois capable
de le comprendre vraiment
et de le réaliser dans toute ma vie.

Thou alone art.
Grant that I may be able
to understand it truly
and realise it in my whole life.

This is enough. Have you understood?

Yes, Mother. . .

Mother this prayer is in contradiction to what You gave me last time, isn’t it?

In contradiction?

Yes, Mother.

Here it is “Thou alone art” and the previous one is “The world as it is at present is the Divine who has forgotten Himself”

Well, then what do you find here as a contradiction? Let me see the other prayer. Here it is “Thou alone art. Grant that I may be able to understand it truly.”

The other is: “The world as it is at present is the Divine who has forgotten Himself.

O Thou who art all in Truth, grant that I may remember so that I may become Thee again.”

Well, what is the contradiction here? But don’t you understand anything?

Mother, in this one You say that the Divine alone exists, that there is nothing but the Divine; and in the other one You say that the world as it is at present is the Divine who has forgotten Himself. So here You say that the Divine has forgotten Himself, effaced Himself And in the other one You say that the Divine alone exists. Is it not a contradiction?

But where is the contradiction? I don’t understand what you want to say.

At the beginning you are addressing the Supreme: “Thou alone art.” It is you who are ad-dressing Him not me. And you want to understand and realise the Supreme who alone exists. This is what you are imploring. Because it is He alone who truly exists.

But in the other case, it is the world that has forgotten the Divine. The Divine is hidden, whereas here it is the Divine alone who exists. It is the other way around. The Divine who alone exists, the Divine who is everywhere, is completely forgotten in the world. The world has detached itself from the Divine and is going further and further away. In the first case, it is the Divine who exists and in the other case it is the Divine who has been forgotten. It is the other way around. How can you not understand this? I don’t know.

But, Mother, that is exactly what I wanted to say, but instead of ‘contrary’ I wrongly said ‘contradictory’.

The first case is where the Divine is forgotten and here the Divine is re-established. Because it is He alone who exists.

Yes, so it is not a contradiction. But you don’t understand what I am telling you. I am saying that it is you who are addressing the Divine. Have you become the Divine?

No, Mother.

You are addressing the Supreme and saying, “The Supreme alone exists; let me understand Thee and realise Thee.” This is what you are asking the Supreme. And in the other case, it is the world that has forgotten the Divine.

Each thing in the world carries the immanent Divine in itself, each thing, everywhere, and this Divine must manifest, and now He is forgotten — completely hidden. It is the opposite. The Divine who alone exists is forgotten in the world. It is the opposite that has happened.

Yes, Mother. . .

What I am saying is that there is nothing contradictory. There is nothing that is opposite. One is complementary to the other. It is the next step.

Yes, Mother

First, we see that the Divine is forgotten in the world or that the Divine has forgotten Himself in the world as it is at present. This is what it was. And now the next step: you see that it is the Divine alone who exists. This is the complement of what it was. It is the result of a progression. We advance and we see another aspect in which the Divine exists. The Divine was forgotten and now the Divine alone exists. Do you understand?

Yes, Mother

What it was, and the next step: He alone exists.

It is you, you are speaking: “Thou alone art.” You understand, now? Does it enter a little?

Yes, Mother.

(In a teasing tone:) At last!
