(I used to write down my experiences in a notebook and would show it to the Mother when I went to see Her. As the old notebook was full, I took to Her a new notebook.)

Ah! your notebook.

Yes, Mother.

Give it to me. What, it is a new notebook? It is pretty! You have got a new notebook made?

Yes, Mother. The other one is over. Last time You noticed it and wrote “blessings” at the end.

It is all right. You want me to write something here?

Yes, Mother. A prayer.

A prayer . . .

Whatever You wish, Mother, I do not insist.

Well. (Mother writes:)

“May I be born
into the New Consciousness.”

This is the prayer. You must aspire for this. You must become this. And I have explained to you the way— how you must open yourself. Do you understand? That is enough.

Yes, Mother, it is magnificent.

(In the new notebook, I noted down this experience:)

“I saw Sri Aurobindo surrounded by a white light. It seemed to me that He was telling me something.”

(The Mother reads the note and says:)

That is it, it is the answer to the prayer I have just written in your notebook, “May I be born into the New Consciousness.” You see, it is the answer. And do you know what He was telling you?

He was saying, “Open yourself to the New Consciousness.” How beautiful that you received the answer, readymade. It is good, my child.

(Mother writes:)

Yes
Open yourself to the New Consciousness.
