In my garden there were friendly snakes For Mother kept the poisonous ones away Of course it was a garden built for Her And I laboured there many a year and day. The gentle snakes would often be caught in mesh Placed in spots to keep the voracious deer From destroying the beauty growing there, But in releasing them there was no fear From snake or man, all was in harmony. The wrens sang their songs of earthly glee, At the lakes edge I saw the silently And stealthy heron able at will to see The movement of fish in his fluid nursery. In the garden of Her beauty sang each tree.
