I wandered as a lonely child Somewhat coarse and somewhat wild, In those early days who sought release From clutch of family and increase Of anger from the warring two Whose enmity each day to renew The agelong battle of man and wife. I could not breathe in all that strife And from the darkness there I left, My spirit's path now bereft Of harmony that long I sought And the unity for which I fought.
