A morning soul I met her there On the stairway to the stars, With auburn flowers in her hair She seemed a dream of avatars Or damask rose to front the dawn. I likened her to a golden flame Or a young and playful fawn Descended here from Heaven's plane Bearing an amethystine name. Her smile cherubic, absent guile, Who visited my heart awhile. I shall remember her notes of love Like music streaming from above, A child of God in human dress Who came in godliness to bless.
