Great harm she did to me, the one I loved Who could not keep the beast from rising up And once unleashed attacked me as alone I drank my sorrow from a poisoned cup.
The deed complete she left me as I lay Worn and weak, the body racked with pain The heart a beat away from nothingness, The soul prepared to take its flight again.
Is there worse agony than love betrayed? A moment's blossom in eternity When all the world seemed lovely and divine And now a realm of endless misery
From which I try with all my soul to rise And still the anguish of the torn heart cries.
