To have walked upon the avenues of light In vast cathedrals paced among the trees At one with all the growing things of earth, Known boundless energies of daring youth And thrilled to the awakening strains of love, There have I lived, there moved in peace awhile The heart grown wider by the Master's touch. Though grief has come with loss of one so fair Who through the calm and chaos of the years Ever in compassion stayed our course, Mid treachery and disillusionment Battled for the body's right to stay With me amid the torments she must bear, Unconvinced that death would come so soon, On earth awhile this beauty seeking found, Living in the moments of our love, The One for whom her soul through ages sought.
