To Seyril August 1999
Remembrancer of bliss in the fields of youth, In verdant valleys where the fledgling spirit soared Free in the winds and stars of childhood, rejoicing. In hamlets and houses and cities and far countries roamed, In the faces and colours of earth's unnumbered souls We found thee and in our manifest years on earth We grow to thy light as blossoms a happy branch.
To the senseless clamour and ever-increasing speed Of a blinded life whose frenetic whirling pace A chimera seems, the silent call of soul And the heart's high hope to catch an eternal spring, The majesty of the silent Baca peaks Whose calm established in human hearts renews The wonder and the wisdom of it all, The truth-light flowers fair on the hills of God.
Now in serene and contemplative years Darkness still tries the soul, but all is grace; Though battles with illness continue within and around us, Nothing can cloak the vision of Her we have seen More living than life and the life beyond our dreams, Unfading as a lover's touch recalled, Those ecstasied moments in Her radiant smile, Waking from nescience to join the game divine And the spirit's march through human forms in time. Recipients of Grace descending, awash In streams of Light; receivers of cleansing Fire Receive blessings of the Lord of Life.
As thunder roars and lightning sweeps the earth The golden children sing of Savitri While in the wings the superhuman child Prepares the stage on which his feet shall dance.
