In the early days of Auroville When the pioneers came in a flow In caravans that kept breaking down With their vehicles sputtering on the way They came in answer to the Mother's call To build a township in a barren place In a land long devoid of enriching soil And canyons wide and deep and dangerous That washed the remaining topsoil out to sea. That land became afforested by those Valiant workers from many foreign lands Builders and protectors whom I bless.
