Never again to see the silent flower Explode upon the eye its hued delight Nor hear the call of winged joy in flight Or catch the jasmine's scent in a deepening hour,
Forego the nectarous bounty from the trees And the honeyed taste of summer on the breeze Or feel the winds of winter whip through skin And the swift chill stream benumbing life within.
All would I forsake to hold the gaze Of diamond eyes I knew in younger days, A touch that thrilled the sleeping soul to wake, A smile that wooed all darkness to forsake.
As rooted we stood awaiting the burning glance Summing the defining moment of our prayer All stood hushed in the still electric air To suffer transforming grace on our ignorance.
