She smiles, a warm and beatific smile, What lies beneath I have not skill to know And yet I've seen the treachery and guile And the length of the deceits to which men go;
Not seeing deep I have borne scars untold Time upon time and still I blindly trust Until with love I shall all life enfold And shake from me the centuries of dust.
Then will I when illusions veils are rent With inward glance see the truth to be, This world remade by a divine intent And hear the voices from eternity
Sing their songs and bid us chant with them As we cry, Dona Nobis Pacem.
